I cherish quotes about truth and freedom and have collected them since my youth. My farmer dad valued them as well, although I had to read them to him since he had never learned to read and write. We were so poor that even poverty was a step up—but Dad stubbornly guarded his freedom to think and make his own decisions as a free man.
Here are some “Freedom Quotes” I have collected over the years:
1. Justice William O. Douglas: “The right to be left alone is indeed the beginning of all freedom.”
2. Henry Clay: “Of all the properties that belong to honorable men, not one is so highly prized as that of character.”
3. Noel Coward: “It is discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit.”
4. Herbert Hoover: “Free speech does not live many hours after free industry and free commerce dies.”
5. Alexander Solzhenitsyn: “In our country, the lie has become not just a moral category but a pillar of the state.”
6, George Washington: “If freedom of speech is taken away, we may be led like sheep to the slaughter.”
7. Harry S. Truman: “Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go. And that is down the path of increasingly oppressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear.”
8. Ronald Reagan: “We must always ask: Is government working to liberate and improve the individual, or does it seek to compel, command, and coerce people into submissive obedience?”
9. Will Rogers: “The short memories of the American voters is what keeps politicians in power.”
10. Woodrow Wilson: “Concentration of power precedes the destruction of human liberties.”
11. Clarence Darrow: “When I was a boy, I was told that anybody could become president; I’m beginning to believe it.”

Excellent quotes, Chuck! Keep on keepin’ on!
Thank you, Sally. And have a very Happy New Year 2021–now that 2020 is finally over. But, still, 2021 could very well be the year that America turns socialist and we begin to eat our canaries in order to survive, as Venezuelans did when they became socialists. We must continue to remind each other that we are FREE people and DEMAND that we be treated as such by the elite who would enslave all of us. God bless again, Sally.
Great Quotes Charles,love number 8!
Hey, John. Good to hear from you–and let’s hope we follow our “quotes” and remain a free nation against those who would enslave us to the state. Remember to always speak out, for those who do not speak out against threats and tyranny end up slaves. Chuck Sasser
Love the quotes hope to see you soon
Morning, Dan. Hope to see you again soon in church, Dan. I miss our Sunday School and everyone. But we have to keep on keeping on, in spire of the array of true nuts that have arraigned themselves against liberty and would make us all socialists and slaves. Unbelievable times in the world and in our nation. So let’s all speak out while we still can–before it’s too late. chuck sasser
I loved reading your collection of quotes, Chuck. They’re all so true that I’m hard pressed to pick a favorite. I’d like to see a Charles Sasser quote added to that list! I hope to see you again soon at a club meeting.
Thank you, Julie. I miss very much seeing everyone at the club meetings. Hopefully we’ll all be able to congregate again soon. My dad always used this phrase, which does indeed have some wisdom for a guy who couldn’t read nor write: “Don’t just stand there: Do SOMETHING!” Sure hope to see you and all the other Nightwriters soon. God bless.
Happy Birthday Chuck! Wishing you many more to come. (Picture a Mariache band playing “Las Mananitas”)
Jim, always good to hear from you, old friend. And sure hope you had a great holiday season, in spite ofthe insanity that has overtaken our country. Yep, I’m now officially 79 years old; my Mom verified my age when I enlisted in the military, since I was born in the hills and had no birth certificate until then. Oh well, will you lead the Mariache band? Hope to see all of you again soon. God bless. chuck sasser
